Example, by a radar being out of alignment by even a fraction of an inch can cause the device scanning down the road to be off-axis by several feet or more. What this means is that a misaligned sensor or camera will NOT function as intended by the manufacturer and can cause a vehicle to miss a potential hazard or become itself to be a potential hazard on the roadway.
There are several instances when a ADAS calibration is required. First, when your vehicle is involved in an accident it is often required by the manufacturer to recalibrate your ADAS system. There are several instances when a ADAS calibration is required. First, when your vehicle is involved in an accident it is often required by the manufacturer to recalibrate your ADAS system. Even a minor fender bender can misalign a camera, radar, or sensor causing the device to produce false readings. Second, when a windshield is replace and the vehicle has a forward facing ADAS camera, it is required by the manufacturer to have the camera recalibrated. Lastly, having a wheel alignment performed on a vehicle will require ADAS recalibration. When an alignment is performed, adjustments to the vehicle's suspension will change the ride height, effecting the factory settings of the vehicle's ADAS system.

Because of the very fine margin for error, ADAS recalibration is an involved process that involves cutting-edge software and equipment to do the job right. In general, calibration is performed in two ways. The static calibrations are performed indoors using manufacturer-specific targeting equipment and in rooms that need to be kept at exacting standards (level floors, clean walls…etc). Other calibrations are performed dynamically. This means that the technicians actually drive the vehicle and calibrate cameras and sensors as the vehicle is in motion. In both cases, ADAS systems are aligned and fine-tuned according to the manufacturer’s specifications to ensure as accurate a reading as possible.
